What Worked?
Case study: Min. 20
Negative feedback team and positive feedback team.
Progress was quicker and faster in the positive feedback team, reminds me of plants and using positive words for plants.
Open Questions: used when it is in the start of the process.
How do you feel? What do you think? Opens up the fundamental pieces of said performance.
Open Discussion
Concept Reflection: To open up the reflection space of the person receiving the feedback by providing a number of concepts about the work. The aim is to start a series of associations with these concepts and the work.
Insights and realization: time for the person to think.
Method: post-it notes with words chosen by peers that relate to its project.
Personal letter: short letter written for the presenter of the work
Performance Feedback
Performativity is simply means “How to do things with words.” Performance feedback is a communication process. The main goal for performance feedback is to have expectations of reasonable achievement.
Three Distinct Approaches to Feedback
NVC (Non-violent communication) is a communication tool that rejects coercive forms of discourse. aka no toxic words or behaviours welcomed! It builds empathy through encounter to reach win win solutions that meet the needs of all those involved.
Liz Kerman’s Critical Response Process
Step 1. Statements of Meaning
Responders state what was meaningful, evocative, interesting and exciting in the work they have just witnessed.
Step 2. Artist as Questioner
The artist asks questions about the work. In answering, responders stay on topic with the question and may express opinions in direct response to the artist’s questions.
Step 3. Neutral Questions
Responders ask neutral questions about the work, and the artist responds. Questions are neutral when they do not have an opinion couched in them.
